Quick checklist

โœ“300 DPI minimum resolution
โœ“2mm bleed on all sides
โœ“CMYK colour mode
โœ“Fonts outlined (vector files)
โœ“Cut line on separate layer
โœ“File size under 100MB

๐Ÿ“ File formats

We accept the following file formats. Vector formats are strongly preferred for logos, text and graphics โ€” they scale perfectly to any size without loss of quality.

Best
PDF
Vector-based, fonts embedded, universally compatible. Export from Illustrator, InDesign or Canva.
Best
SVG / AI / EPS
Native vector formats from Adobe Illustrator and other design tools. Outlines fonts before saving.
Good
PNG
Raster format โ€” accepted at 300 DPI minimum. Good for photography and complex illustrations with transparency.
Acceptable
JPG
Accepted at 300 DPI minimum. No transparency support. Avoid for logos with fine detail or text.

PSD / TIFF
Large files โ€” upload via email or our large file transfer link. Contact us before sending files over 100MB.

Word, PowerPoint and Publisher files are not accepted. If your design is in one of these applications, export it as a PDF or PNG first. We cannot process Office file formats.

๐Ÿ” Resolution and DPI

Resolution only applies to raster files (PNG, JPG). Vector files (PDF, SVG, AI, EPS) have infinite resolution and are always perfect regardless of size.

For raster files

  • Minimum: 300 DPI at the intended print size
  • Ideal: 300โ€“600 DPI
  • Rule: A 300 DPI image at 100ร—100mm cannot be printed clearly at 200ร—200mm โ€” the DPI halves when you double the size
โœ“ Do
โœ“ Start your design at the exact print size at 300 DPI
โœ“ Export from Photoshop at 300 DPI or higher
โœ“ Use vector format if your design is a logo or text
โœ“ Check the DPI in your file's properties before uploading
โœ— Don't
โœ— Scale up a 72 DPI web image and call it 300 DPI
โœ— Take a screenshot of your logo and upload it as artwork
โœ— Design at a small size and then upscale
โœ— Use images from websites โ€” these are almost always 72 DPI
โ„น๏ธ

Not sure about your file's resolution? Upload it anyway and our design team will check it and tell you if there's a problem before printing anything.

๐ŸŽจ Colour mode

Our printers use CMYK colour. RGB files are accepted but will be converted โ€” some colours shift in the conversion, particularly vibrant blues, purples and neons.

CMYK vs RGB

  • CMYK: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black โ€” the ink colours used in printing. Screens can't always display CMYK colours accurately.
  • RGB: Red, Green, Blue โ€” how screens display colour. The RGB colour gamut is larger than CMYK, so some bright screen colours can't be reproduced in print.
โœ“ For best results
โœ“ Set up your document in CMYK before designing
โœ“ Use Pantone-to-CMYK conversions for brand colours
โœ“ Check your proof carefully for colour accuracy
โœ— Common mistakes
โœ— Using neon or RGB-only colours expecting exact reproduction
โœ— Assuming screen colours will match exactly
โœ— Using pure RGB blue (0,0,255) โ€” prints as a darker tone
โ„น๏ธ

We use calibrated colour management throughout our process to minimise RGB-to-CMYK shift. For brand-critical colour accuracy, supply CMYK values or a Pantone reference and request a colour-checked proof.

๐Ÿ“ Bleed and cut lines

Bleed is extra artwork that extends beyond the final cut edge of the sticker. It prevents thin white edges appearing if the cut is very slightly off-centre.

How much bleed do I need?

  • Stickers with a full-colour background: 2mm bleed on all sides
  • Stickers with white or transparent background: Bleed not required, but a 2mm safe zone inside the cut edge is recommended
  • Die cut stickers: 2mm bleed following the shape of your design outline

โ† Bleed area extends 2mm beyond โ†’
Dashed line = cut edge ยท Pink area = bleed ยท Centre box = safe zone for important elements

What is a safe zone?

The safe zone is the area at least 2โ€“3mm inside the cut edge where you should keep all important design elements โ€” text, logos and key graphics. Elements too close to the cut edge risk being partially cut off.

Die cut stickers

For die cut stickers, your cut line should follow the outline of your design. We add a small border (typically 1โ€“2mm) around your design shape unless you specify otherwise. Supply a separate spot colour layer labelled "Cut Line" or "Die Cut" to indicate the exact cut path.

โœ…

Don't worry if your file doesn't have bleed โ€” our team adds it during pre-press as part of the standard proofing process. We'll show you exactly how it looks in your proof before printing.

๐Ÿ”ค Fonts

Font issues are one of the most common causes of proof delays. Follow these steps to avoid them.

For vector files (AI, SVG, EPS)

Before saving or exporting, outline all fonts (also called "convert to curves" or "create outlines"). This converts the text to vector shapes that don't require the font file to be installed. In Adobe Illustrator: Select All โ†’ Type โ†’ Create Outlines.

For PDF files

When exporting to PDF from Illustrator, InDesign or other professional tools, fonts are typically embedded automatically. Choose "PDF/X-1a" or "PDF/X-4" preset for best results.

For Canva exports

Canva PDFs embed fonts automatically. Export as "PDF Print" (not PDF Standard) for the highest quality output.

โœ“ Do
โœ“ Outline all fonts in vector files before saving
โœ“ Export PDF with fonts embedded
โœ“ Use minimum 6pt (2mm) text size for legibility
โœ— Don't
โœ— Send AI files with live (unoutlined) text
โœ— Use unusual custom fonts without outlining them
โœ— Use text smaller than 5โ€“6pt on small stickers

๐Ÿ” Transparency and white ink

Transparency works differently depending on whether you're printing on white or clear vinyl.

White vinyl stickers

Transparent areas in your design on white vinyl will show as white โ€” the white vinyl beneath shows through. This is usually exactly what you want.

Clear vinyl stickers

Transparent areas show the surface beneath the sticker (glass, bottle, etc.). We always print a white ink underbase under your design to keep colours vivid on clear vinyl โ€” this is included automatically at no extra cost.

Holographic vinyl stickers

Transparent areas allow the holographic shimmer to show through your design. Designs with strategic transparency look most impressive on holographic vinyl โ€” the rainbow shimmer appears through the transparent parts of the design.

โš ๏ธ

If you want specific areas to be transparent on clear or holographic vinyl, make sure those areas are genuinely transparent (no white fill) in your design file. A white fill and a transparent area look identical on screen but print very differently.

๐ŸชŸ Designing for clear vinyl

Clear vinyl stickers require a slightly different design approach to look their best.

  • Use transparency strategically โ€” transparent areas show the surface through your sticker. This is the whole point of clear vinyl.
  • Avoid very dark or fully-filled backgrounds โ€” these cover the surface and eliminate the transparent effect. You might as well use white vinyl.
  • Bold designs work best โ€” strong logos, clean type and bold graphics look most impressive on clear vinyl.
  • White elements โ€” white in your design prints as an opaque white via the white ink underbase. Use white intentionally to create contrast against the transparent background.
  • Test before ordering large quantities โ€” how a clear sticker looks depends on the surface it goes on. Test with a small batch on your specific product first.

โœ… Final pre-upload checklist

  • โœ… File format: PDF, SVG, AI, EPS (preferred) or PNG/JPG at 300 DPI minimum
  • โœ… Colour mode: CMYK
  • โœ… Resolution: 300 DPI at final print size (raster files only)
  • โœ… Bleed: 2mm on all sides (if design has a full-colour background)
  • โœ… Safe zone: Important elements at least 2โ€“3mm from cut edge
  • โœ… Fonts outlined (vector files) or embedded (PDF)
  • โœ… Transparency: intentional transparent areas are genuinely transparent (not white filled)
  • โœ… Cut line: on a separate layer labelled "Cut" if die cut shape required
  • โœ… File size: under 100MB (contact us for larger files)
  • โœ… Spelling and text: checked and correct
